Why Therapy?

I know that for some, therapy can feel daunting and mysterious. But something brought you to this website. Perhaps you're not feeling in flow, life feels hard, or you're feeling more disconnected or less ok than you want to be. Together, we can find a way to work towards the life you most want to live. Maybe it's about finding a new perspective. Maybe it's about learning new skills to manage big feelings and thoughts. Maybe you need to heal past harm. Maybe you want to uncover or rediscover who you are. Together, we can help you find a new way.

About me

I have been working for the last 20 years to help others create their best life in all sorts of different ways. I've been working to create my best life too. I am originally from New Jersey in the USA. I sailed half way around the world to New Zealand from the US Virgin Islands in 1999 - and I have been living here ever since. My journey to becoming a clinical psychologist has not been a straight line. I have been a sailor, a musician, a chef, a roller derby player, a music therapist, a cold ocean plunger, a parent, an artist, and a member of the rainbow community. I know what it's like to want to live life fully and to need some support along the way.

My focus

My focus is to help you discover and then move towards your goals, values, and a life that feels meaningful to you. I provide a safe, inclusive space for you to figure things out. I will listen and work with you to understand how patterns of coping, thinking, and behaving (that might have been helpful in the past) are making life feel difficult for you today.

I understand that each person is unique and also that there are patterns that can make life difficult for us.  I have experience working with adults and adolescents presenting with a range of challenges including anxiety, depression/low mood, trauma, PTSD, stress, life changes, gender/sexuality, behavioural problems and offending behaviours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to me  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A lot of our work together will consist of talking and/or noticing what is coming up for you in the moment. During the initial sessions, I'll ask you questions to more deeply understand your experience and what brought you to this point in life - together we can chart a path forward. I may also use other modalities such as music or drawing to explore your experience if that is something you can relate to. I may take notes or draw diagrams to illustrate what we are talking about during the session, I have experience using a wide range of tools to help you not only discover what has been getting in your way but to help you to heal and move towards the life you desire.

I have a PhD in psychology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology and I am a member of the NZ College of Clinical Psychologists (MNZCCP). I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Schema Therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and use elements of DBT (Dialectical Behavioiural Therapy) where appropriate. I also have a Masters Degree in Music Therapy and practised as a registered Music Therapist for 10 years prior to returning to the world of academia to study Clinical Psychology. I am a registered ACC sensitive claims provider.
